Hokuriku Electric Power submitted the draft environmental impact assessment for its 25.8MW Asahi onshore wind project in Asahi Town, Toyama Prefecture.
According to the document released for public viewing on October 1, 2026, the utility plans to install six 4.3MW turbines across an approximately 233.5ha site. Their combined output will be capped at 25.08MW due to grid connection size. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2028, with commercial operation following in February 2031.
METI data shows the project was awarded a 15.48 yen per kWh feed-in-premium (FIP) in Japan’s first onshore wind auction, which was held in FY2021.
The utility launched the assessment process for the project in September 2021 and advanced it to the methodology stage in March 2022. At that time, it planned to build an up to 30MW power plant using six to seven turbines, 3.2MW to 4.3MW each.
As of the end of March 2026, Hokuriku Electric Power Group held stakes in three other wind projects, including the 21.6MW Fukuura Wind Power Plant in Ishikawa Prefecture, the 8MW Mikuni Wind Power Plant in Fukui Prefecture, and the 7.5MW Nyuzen Offshore Wind Power Plant near the planned Asahi project site.
