Shirokuma Power won an undisclosed number of grid-scale battery storage projects in the FY2024 long-term decarbonization auction (LTDA), bringing its total pipeline scheduled for commissioning by the end of FY2028 to 5.3GWh, the company said on May 15, 2025.
OCCTO results published on April 28, 2025, and other winners’ announcements suggest that special purpose companies (SPCs) potentially linked to the company may have secured up to 11 projects totaling up to 376.6MW (derated), including a 46.6MW three-to-six-hour and a 46.6MW six-hour-plus projects awarded to Shirokuma Power 02 LLC, three to SRE LLC, two to Rechargeable Energy LLC, and four to Aoba Power LLC.
SPCs directly associated with Shirokuma Power were not awarded projects in the first LTDA held in FY2023. However, according to a now-deleted LinkedIn post, which at the time of writing remained indexed by search engines, by a person familiar with the matter, the company was involved in the development of 11 winning BESS projects totaling 341.9MW (derated).
Separately from large-scale projects eligible for the LTDA, Shirokuma Power (formerly afterFIT) has been involved in the development of high-voltage, 2MW/8MWh scale projects.
Correction (May 26, 2025): The previous version of this article incorrectly indicated that Rechargeable Energy LLC won three projects.
