Keiyo Gas and its real estate unit Keiyo Gas Fudosan launched KG Solar 1 LLC on August 8, 2025, to build out a portfolio of about 50 low-voltage solar power plants in Kanto totaling approximately 5MWDC for a PPA with TG Octopus Energy, the companies announced on October 2, 2025.

According to the statement, TG Octopus Energy will use the procured power and non-fossil certificates for its retail business. The first 10 assets, including the 105kWDC Sakura Power Plant in Inashiki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and the 77kW Kamihinata Power Plant in Kanuma City, Tochigi Prefecture, began commercial operation on September 30, 2025. The companies did not provide a target completion date for the portfolio.

Development, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), and operation and maintenance (O&M) is being handled by TG Octopus Energy group company HSK.

The initiative comes amid Keiyo Gas’s efforts to expand its renewable portfolio in Japan and overseas. METI’s FIT/FIP certification data shows the company’s affiliates including Keiyo Gas Energy Solution and KGSV Renewable Energy own more than 35 mostly low- and high-voltage solar but also small-scale hydropower plants totaling over 35MW.

Prior to the deal with TG Octopus Energy, the gas company also partnered with NTT and TEPCO Holdings joint venture TN Cross to provide PPAs at public facilities in several municipalities.

TG Octopus Energy, a tie-up between Tokyo Gas and the UK-based energy company established in 2021, said the arrangement with Keiyo Gas allows it to further expand its renewable energy procurement portfolio. The joint venture also previously signed a three-year PPA to offtake 280GWh of hydropower generated at Gunma Prefecture-owned assets annually and recently partnered with Token Corporation to offer residential PPAs to its tenants.
