Sun Trinity commissioned a 3.1MW solar carport at Aeon Mall Yamatokoriyama in Nara Prefecture on October 17, 2025, bringing its operational on-site PPA portfolio with the mall operator to 10.1MW.
According to the statement, the power plant covers 1,004 parking spots and its output is expected to cover approximately 20% of the facility’s annual power consumption. The project was developed under a framework agreement signed between the two companies in January 2024 to roll out 14.9MW of solar carports under on-site PPAs across 12 malls nationwide.
Aeon Mall Yamatokoriyama follows six other locations that had solar carports added earlier this year, including Aeon Mall Toki in Gifu Prefecture where a 1.9MW system was added and Aeon Mall Kofu Showa where a 2.2MW power plant was installed. The developer said it plans to add another 8.8MW across six malls, suggesting the original agreement has been expanded.
In efforts to decarbonize its malls, Aeon Mall previously partnered with Mizuho Bank and Ecostyle to develop over 1,000 low-voltage solar power plants totaling about 120MW and self-wheel their output to 50 locations.
Sun Trinity was founded in 2022 as a 60:40 joint venture between Sumitomo Corporation’s wholly-owned subsidiary Power Frontier Holdings and Shikoku Electric Power and has focused on developing solar projects under on- and off-site PPAs.
