Eurus Energy Holdings completed the environmental impact assessment for its up to 98.6MW Kamaishi Wide-Area onshore wind expansion project in Iwate Prefecture. It submitted the final assessment on January 20 and received METI approval on February 17, 2026.

According to the document released for public viewing on June 8, 2026, the company plans to install 25 turbines, 4.2MW each, across a 1,879ha site in Kamaishi City, Tono City, and Otsuchi Town. Their combined output will be capped at 98.6MW due to grid connection size. Construction is expected to begin in April 2027, with commercial operation following in April 2031.

METI data shows the expansion project was certified under the feed-in-tariff (FIT) scheme in FY2016, when 20kW and larger onshore wind assets were eligible for 22 yen per kWh for 20 years.

The planned project is located between two groups of turbines operated as part of the 42.9MW Kamaishi Wide-Area Wind Farm. The existing project was commissioned in 2023 following repowering and operates under a 16 yen per kWh FIT contract.

Eurus Energy submitted the assessment methodology for the expansion project in July 2012, aiming to build an approximately 114MW wind farm using 57 turbines of 2MW each. The project maintained the same scale in its draft assessment report filed in February 2015 but was downsized at the final stage.

With stakes in 42 operational domestic onshore projects totaling over 1.2GW, Eurus Energy is among Japan’s largest wind farm developers. The company also has several projects under construction and development.
