Shikoku Electric Power, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Yonden Solar, began commercial operation of the 1.99MW Gobuichiike Floating Solar Power Plant in Miki Town, Kagawa Prefecture, on September 1, 2026, the company announced on the same day.

According to the statement, the power plant’s output is expected to reach approximately 3GWh per year. The utility first disclosed the project in November 2025 together with the same-scale Sonoike Floating Solar Power Plant in Sanuki City, Kagawa Prefecture, which is expected to be commissioned in 2027 and generate about 2.95GWh annually.

Gobuichiike is the utility’s sixth floating solar power plant. It follows the 750kW Haseike, the 1.99MW Hazama Kamiike, the 200kW Hazama Nakaike, and the 1.5MW Taniike, which were commissioned in Kagawa Prefecture between July 2022 and November 2025, and the 1.99MW Teruiike-Daimyojinike in Saijo City, Ehime Prefecture, brought online in October 2025.

As part of its efforts to add 500MW of renewable capacity between FY2020 and FY2030, the utility began accepting proposals for reservoirs with a surface area of 15,000m2 or more as candidate sites for further projects.

Floating solar has been expanding in Japan as one of the ways to add more capacity amid an increasing shortage of land suitable for traditional ground-mounted power plants. In addition to Shikoku Electric Power, companies such as OTS, Kyocera EPA, and Tekoma Energy have been developing such projects.
