Chubu Electric Power completed environmental impact assessment for the 21MW Atsumi No. 2 Wind Power Plant it plans to build in Tahara City, Aichi Prefecture, the company announced on January 20, 2025.

“On December 18, 2024, we received a notice of confirmation that no changes are required for the ‘Atsumi No. 2 Wind Power Project Environmental Impact Assessment Report,’ which we submitted to the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in accordance with the Environmental Impact Assessment Act and the Electricity Business Act on November 21, 2024,” said the company’s statement.

According to the report, which the company submitted to the relevant municipalities and made available for public viewing, the onshore wind power plant will consist of five 4.2MW turbines and be located along the coast adjacent to Atsumi Thermal Power Plant. Construction is expected to begin in May 2025, followed by November 2027 commissioning.

The power plant will follow the two-turbine, 7.4MW Atsumi Wind Power Plant commissioned in September 2023, which Chubu EPCO built on premises of the 1.4GW oil-fired power plant owned by JERA, a 50:50 joint venture between Chubu EPCO and a wholly-owned subsidiary of TEPCO. Separately from the Atsumi Wind Power Plant, Chubu EPCO also owns the 22MW Omaezaki Wind Power Plant, which it commissioned in two phases, in 2010 and 2011.
