HEXA Energy Services took delivery of two 1.99MW/4.94MWh grid-scale battery storage assets at the end of August 2026 and began their commercial operations, the company announced on September 7, 2026.

According to the statement, trading optimization of the two projects, located in Fukushima and Miyagi prefectures, will be handled in-house. The developer said it plans to further expand its grid-scale battery storage and renewables aggregation business in the future. METI records show HEXA Energy Services secured a power retail license on June 30, 2025 and registered as an aggregator with a plan to begin operations on September 1, 2026.

The merchant assets were developed as part of a partnership between the i Squared Capital-backed asset owner and PowerX disclosed in March 2025. Under the tie-up, the manufacturer is in charge of site selection, project development, and battery system supply. When announcing the collaboration, the companies said they would aim to commission over 10 high-voltage projects nationwide within a year.

In July 2026, HEXA Energy Services signed a 20-year tolling agreement with Tokyo Gas for a 49.7MW/202.1MWh asset in Fukushima Prefecture. The company also owns one operational and 12 under-development projects backed by long-term decarbonization auction contracts, including the 30MW/130.4MWh Tagawa Power Storage Station, which was the first asset to be commissioned under the scheme.
