On October 1, 2024, construction begun on Ishikari Renewable Energy Data Center No. 1 in Ishikari City, Hokkaido, one of the companies behind the project first launched in 2022, Tokyu Land, announced on October 23, 2024.
Tokyu Land and Flower Communications, two companies managing the project owned by Ishikari Renewable Energy Data Center LLC, plan to complete the 15MW data center by the end of March 2026.
A portion of the required power will be supplied through a PPA arranged by Tokyu Land’s subsidiaries Ishikari Regional Energy LLC and ReENE. In addition to 673kW of on-premise solar, the companies will develop a 2MW standalone power plant within “RE Zone” (100% renewable power area, which will also be home to the data center) and connect it using a private line.
Ishikari Regional Energy was established by Tokyu Land to supply renewable power to “RE Zone.” In addition to supplying power to the data center, it plans to supply power to other businesses that will be located in the zone as well. The projects are partially funded using the Ministry of Environment’s regional decarbonization/renewable energy promotion subsidy.
The Japan Energy Hub PPA database shows that Tokyu Land has been active in developing PPAs in other areas of Japan as well, having signed both on- and off-site agreements with both corporations and municipalities.
