Nippon Chikudenchi commissioned its first grid-scale battery storage facility on May 7, 2025, the company announced on the same day.
According to the statement, Sun Village handled the project’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC). The 2MW/8MWh Kasugai Nishio Power Storage Station in Kasugai City, Aichi Prefecture, will be aggregated by Digital Grid, which will trade the asset’s power in the wholesale, balancing, and capacity markets.
Construction of the asset began in November 2024 and grid connection followed on April 24, 2025, Sun Village said. The facility uses four containerized Huawei LUNA2000-2.0MWH units.
Nippon Chikudenchi is a new entrant into grid-scale storage. The company, established in July 2024, targets commissioning 20 projects by the end of 2025. By 2026 it aims to have commissioned 80 BESS facilities.
While the company has not disclosed the scale of its planned projects, its target project counts suggest a focus on high-voltage, 2MW/8MWh systems due to their easier site acquisition and faster grid connection processing relative to larger projects.
