TESS Engineering’s wholly-owned subsidiary Imari Green Power commissioned the 46MW Saga Imari Biomass Power Plant in Imari City, Saga Prefecture, on April 19, 2025.

The power plant is expected to generate 312GWh annually, all of which will be sold to Kyushu Electric Power Transmission and Distribution under a 20-year, 24 yen per kWh feed-in-tariff (FIT) contract. It will be fueled by palm kernel shells (PKS) sourced from Indonesia through another TESS Holdings group company, PT International Green Energy.

Construction began in February 2022 and was completed on time, allowing for commissioning slightly earlier than the originally planned May 2025.

Saga Imari is the largest biomass power plant in TESS Holdings’ portfolio. The EPC contractor and power producer owns it alongside the 2MW Nishikicho Biomass Power Plant in Kumamoto and a portfolio of solar assets.

Like other biomass power plants of similar scale, Saga Imari is situated adjacent to a port to streamline fuel supply.
