TESS Holdings-affiliated Shizuoka Kikugawa Chikudensho LLC began construction of the approximately 30MW Shizuoka Kikugawa Power Storage Station, the company announced on April 30, 2025.
The project was awarded a 22MW (derated capacity) contract in Japan’s first long-term decarbonization auction.
In addition to TESS Holdings leading the development of the project, its wholly-owned subsidiary TESS Engineering has also been in charge of engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC). The parent company disclosed the EPC contract, valued at about 5 billion yen, earlier this month. TESS Engineering plans to complete the project in March 2027.
The group will also be in charge of the facility’s operation and maintenance (O&M) and aggregation once the asset is online.
TESS Holdings, which expanded from offering engineering services to developing projects in FY2012 when the feed-in-tariff (FIT) scheme was introduced, has been increasingly active in battery storage. In addition to securing EPC contracts with third parties, the company has formed a BESS development partnership with Daiwa Energy & Infrastructure and a broader renewables alliance with storage as a core focus with Tokyo Century.
In its “TX2030 TESS Transformation 2030” mid-term management plan, the company leans on grid-scale and co-located storage development as one of its key growth pillars.
