Tokyo Century will invest in four wholly-owned extra high-voltage grid-scale battery storage projects totaling 101MW/386.3MWh, the company announced on December 12, 2025. The assets are expected to be commissioned gradually between FY2028 and FY2030.

According to the statement, one of the facilities, a 30MW/112.7MWh system in Nasushiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture, with a planned FY2028 COD, will be in the Tokyo TSO area. The remaining three will be in Kyushu. They will include two 16MW/64.4MWh assets in Nagasaki Prefecture, scheduled to be brought online in FY2028 and FY2029, respectively, and a 39MW/144.9MWh project in Taku City, Saga Prefecture, set to be commissioned in FY2030.

The company said the expertise gained through earlier grid-scale battery storage facilities and its quick decision-making system enabled it to make an early commitment to the four projects, which it is developing in-house.

On December 8, 2025, Tokyo Century commissioned its first grid-scale BESS with full ownership, the 2MW/8.1MWh Iwate Kitakami Power Storage Station. It followed its inaugural operational storage asset, the 11MW/23MWh Senri Power Storage Station owned jointly with Osaka Gas and Itochu, which was brought online in August 2025.

In addition to the four new projects, Tokyo Century is also developing the wholly-owned 15.6MW/64.4MWh Nagasaki Unekari Power Storage Station and a 20MW/79MWh joint project with JFE Engineering in Memuro Town, Hokkaido. The company aims to develop 600MW of grid-scale BESS as soon as possible.
