Isuzu Motors signed a 13MW solar off-site PPA with Tokyo Gas and its subsidiary Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions acting as an intermediary, the companies announced on March 27, 2025.

According to the statement, power from multiple solar assets totaling 13MW will be supplied to Isuzu Motors Fujisawa Factory in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture, from April 2025. The approximately 12GWh delivered each year is expected to account for about 14% of the truck and parts factory’s consumption.

The automaker will also source power from other, primarily LNG power plants owned by Tokyo Gas alongside non-fossil certificates from other sources to cover the factory’s remaining consumption.

Starting from April 2027, Isuzu plans to start using a portion of the power secured through this PPA at its Tochigi Factory in Tochigi City, Tochigi Prefecture, where it manufactures engines and other parts.

Isuzu’s 2023 annual report notes PPA use since 2022, but this is the first disclosed deal. Tokyo Gas and its engineering unit signed at least a dozen on-site and off-site agreements, serving as either a generator, a retailer, or both, the Japan Energy Hub PPA database shows. Among others, they signed a 10MW deal with Seven-Eleven and a 7MW deal with Honda Motor.
