Vena Energy targets a March 2032 COD for the project.

Vena Energy-affiliated special purpose company (SPC) NRE-55 Investment LLC launched the environmental impact assessment process for an up to 49.58MWAC/61.02MWDC solar project in Shibata City, Niigata Prefecture.

According to a primary consideration submitted to METI and other stakeholders on September 29, 2026, the company plans to install 93,156 panels, 655W each, on land currently used by the Shibatajo Country Club golf course. It is also considering adding battery storage at the site.

Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2030, with commercial operation following in March 2032.

The developer’s website shows that it had over 1GW of operational solar, onshore wind, and battery storage assets in Japan as of 2025. Most recently, in August 2026, it commissioned the 68.6MWAC/71.7MWDC Maniwa Solar Power Plant in Okayama Prefecture, which was also built at a former country club.

Golf courses have become widely used for large-scale solar power plants in Japan, with companies such as EDP Renewables and Pacifico Energy also using them to develop projects.
