Daiwa Energy & Infrastructure began construction of a 38MW/160MWh grid-scale battery storage facility in Chitose City, Hokkaido, the company announced on October 22, 2025.
According to the statement, the land is owned by Daiwa Energy & Infrastructure and the project by the special purpose company Chitose Chikudensho LLC. Group company Daiwa Real Estate Asset Management is in charge of asset management. The facility is expected to be commissioned in 2027. The company did not disclose the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor.
Once operational, Daiwa Energy & Infrastructure plans to participate with the asset in the wholesale, balancing, and capacity markets.
The project in Chitose City follows several other extra high-voltage grid-scale BESS projects being developed by the company. In 2023, it decided to invest in a 50MW/100MWh project in Sapporo City, Hokkaido, jointly with Fuyo General Lease and Astmax. This year, it announced a 25MW/100MWh project in Kumamoto Prefecture and signed a 13 billion yen EPC contract for a separate project in an undisclosed location.
Daiwa Energy & Infrastructure partnered on grid-scale storage development with TESS Holdings in February 2025, aiming to commit to 2GWh of projects within three years. It is unclear whether the Chitose facility is being developed as part of that partnership.
