Toyota Tsusho will build a 3MW data center co-located with its subsidiary Eurus Energy Holdings’ 42MW Kabaoka Wind Farm in Wakkanai City, Hokkaido, the companies announced on January 14, 2026.

According to the statement, Toyota Tsusho plans to break ground on Soya Green Data Center I in April 2026, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2027. The facility will be built on a 9,900m2 site and connected to the adjacent wind farm by a private line. The company said it aims to grow its next-generation data center business to 10-20MW by around 2030, with further expansion targeted after that.

“Soya is one of the best locations in Japan for wind power generation … However, new project development in the region faces challenges due to a lack of power demand within the region and insufficient capacity in the power transmission network,” said Eurus Energy. The group operates 10 wind farms in the area with a combined capacity of over 500MW.

Kabaoka Wind Farm is part of the 434.5MW Dohoku project and was commissioned in February 2024. METI data shows it was certified under the feed-in-tariff (FIT) scheme in FY2016, when 20kW or larger onshore wind projects were offered 20-year, 22 yen per kWh contracts.

The project highlights an increasing interest in co-locating data centers with power generation to secure the energy necessary for their operation and partially bypass existing grid constraints.
