IBeeT and Tokyu Land will jointly develop a 20MW/75.2MWh grid-scale battery storage project in Shiroishi City, Miyagi Prefecture, the companies announced on August 28, 2026.

According to the statement, construction of the extra high-voltage asset is scheduled to begin in FY2026, with commercial operation following in FY2028. PowerX announced on the same day that it secured an order for 30 Mega Power 2500 units for the project jointly with its sales partner Itochu. The facility will use SMA power conditioning systems.

Tokyu Land handled, among other things, early-stage development and site acquisition. Its subsidiary ReENE will be in charge of asset management and aggregation. IBeeT serves as the managing member of the project’s special purpose company (SPC) Miyagi Shiroishi Chikudensho LLC and will provide support with establishing operating structure after completion. The partners did not disclose details about their ownership shares.

Data from the Sustainable Open Innovation Initiative (SII), which administers METI’s FY2025 support scheme for grid-scale battery storage, shows the project was awarded about 1.13 billion yen.

Miyagi Shiroishi Power Storage Station is the third METI-subsidized grid-scale storage project on which the Itochu and Tokyo Century joint venture IBeeT and Tokyu Land partnered. It follows the 20MW/56MWh Gotoku Power Storage Station awarded under the scheme’s FY2022 supplementary budget and the 20MW/82MWh Iizuka Seita Power Storage Station that was selected in FY2024 and is expected to come online in FY2027 or later.

IBeeT also invested in Libra LLC, a Tokyu Land-led special purpose company that plans to develop six extra high-voltage grid-scale battery storage projects totaling 174MW, alongside several other domestic companies.
