ENBIO Holdings and Fuyo General Lease will supply JR Kyushu with the output of approximately 8MWDC of rooftop solar power plants under an offsite physical PPA sleeved by Kyushu Electric Power, the companies announced on August 20, 2026.

According to the statement, supply is expected to begin in phases in August 2027. The power plants will be built on rooftops of logistics facilities developed and operated by CRE in Fukuoka and Saga prefectures. Once the portfolio is completed, it is expected to generate approximately 9.8GWh per year. The output will be used to power Kyushu Shinkansen’s Kagoshima route.

The assets will be owned by an undisclosed special purpose company (SPC) jointly funded by ENBIO Holdings and Fuyo General Lease.

JR Kyushu said the deal marks its first offsite physical PPA for traction power. Japan Energy Hub’s database shows the company previously signed virtual PPAs to decarbonize the Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen, securing about 3GWh per year from Sustech and 5GWh annually from Cosmo Eco Power. Its physical PPAs to date, including a 3.98MWDC offsite arrangement and several onsite contracts, have covered stations and other facilities.

The Kyushu railway company’s Honshu counterparts JR East and JR West have also signed several offsite physical PPAs with the respective areas’ utilities to power their trains, including for 37.6MWAC/40.1MWDC sleeved by Tohoku Electric Power and 50MWAC/75MWDC by Kansai Electric Power.
