ENEOS Power will develop a 50MW/109MWh grid-scale battery storage project on idle land at ENEOS Shimizu Oil Terminal in Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture, the group announced on September 8, 2026.

According to the statement, groundbreaking is expected in January 2027, with commercial operations following in FY2028. Daiwa Energy will handle engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), marking the Daiwa House Industry subsidiary’s first third-party contract to build a grid-scale battery storage asset.

The project appears to have been selected for METI’s FY2025 grid-scale battery storage subsidy program, which awarded approximately 2.55 billion yen to an ENEOS Power project in Shizuoka Prefecture.

ENEOS Power commissioned a 5MW/10MWh behind-the-meter project at ENEOS Negishi Refinery in Kanagawa Prefecture in August 2023 and completed the group’s first grid-scale storage facility, a 50MW/88MWh asset at ENEOS Muroran Branch in Hokkaido, in March 2024. It is also building a 100MW/202MWh system in Chiba Prefecture. The Shizuoka project is its first in the 60Hz western Japan area.

The EPC contractor has built 329 solar power plants totaling 344MW as of August 1, 2026. Its parent company Daiwa House Industry began building its first grid-scale battery storage facility, the 1.9MW/9.8MWh DREAM STORAGE Battery Fukuoka Kurate, in August 2025, and in June 2026 partnered with TEPCO Holdings to develop 4GWh of battery storage nationwide by 2035.
