Eurus Energy Holdings and Tohoku Electric Power began construction of the 33.6MW Fukui Kunimi Wind Farm in Fukui City, Fukui Prefecture, on September 28, 2026, the former announced on October 21, 2026.
According to the statement, the project will consist of nine 4.2MW Vestas turbines with their combined output capped at 33.6MW due to grid connection size. Toda Corporation is handling engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC). The wind farm is expected to begin commercial operation in March 2029.
METI data shows the project was certified under the feed-in-tariff (FIT) scheme in FY2020, when onshore wind power plants were offered 18 yen per kWh for 20 years.
SB Energy, later renamed Terras Energy and now part of Eurus Energy Holdings, launched the environmental impact assessment for the planned power plant in October 2019. It later transferred the project to the special purpose company (SPC) Fukui Kunimi Furyoku LLC, which completed the process in March 2025.
Corporate registry records obtained by Japan Energy Hub show Tohoku Electric Power joined the SPC as a managing member on July 31, 2025. The two partners each hold a 50% economic interest in the entity, Eurus Energy Holdings said.
As of February 28, 2026, Tohoku Electric Power held stakes in 13 under-development onshore wind projects, including the Fukui project, its website shows. The utility also operates the 14.4MW Shin Noshiro Wind Power Plant, which was commissioned in December 2021.
Eurus Energy Holdings’ portfolio includes 40 operational onshore wind power plants in Japan, according to its website. The company has several other under-construction and under-development projects, including the up to 103.2MW Itagoyayama in Fukushima Prefecture, for which it launched the environmental impact assessment process in October 2026.
