Vena Energy-affiliated Akita Oga Furyoku LLC submitted the environmental impact assessment methodology for its up to 46.2MW Akita Oga onshore wind project in Oga City, Akita Prefecture, to METI and other stakeholders on September 30, 2026.
According to the document released for public viewing on October 1, 2026, the company plans to install 7 to 11 turbines, 4.2MW to 6.25MW each, across an approximately 1,396ha site. Their combined output will be capped at 43MW due to grid connection size. Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2031, with commercial operation following in December 2033.
The methodology is the first document filed for the project. With a capacity between 37.5MW and 50MW, the project was exempt from filing a primary consideration that marks the beginning of the process for larger projects.
Operational wind farms in the vicinity include the 4.2MW Kaze no Mori Oga Wind Power Plant commissioned in December 2023, Summit Energy-affiliated Oga Furyoku Hatsuden’s 28.8MW Oga Wind Power Plant, and the 39.95MW A-WIND Katagami Wind Power Plant.
Other onshore projects nearby, such as Oganaka Iriai Furyoku Kaihatsu’s up to 46.2MW Oganaka Iriai, which reached the methodology stage in July 2024, are undergoing environmental impact assessment.
Vena Energy currently operates three onshore wind power plants in Japan, including the 36MW Nakasato in Aomori Prefecture, the 7.5MW Reihoku in Kumamoto Prefecture, and the 7.5MW Nakaura in Nagasaki Prefecture. It is also developing the up to 162.5MW Yamanami in Aomori Prefecture, up to 138.6MW Iwaki-Yuwa in Akita Prefecture, and the 30MW Kagoshima Koriyama among other projects.
