The 77 Bank’s 2MW 77 Solar Park Tomiya, developed with Tohoku Electric Power’s support in Tomiya City, Miyagi Prefecture, was commissioned on October 28, 2024, the two companies announced.

Developed on unused land within the premises of 77 Bank Tomiya Sports Park, the power plant is expected to generate 2.5GWh per year. The generated power will be self-wheeled to The 77 Bank’s main and some other branches.

Utilizing the self-wheeling scheme as opposed to regular off-site PPA scheme exempts The 77 Bank from paying the renewable power promotion surcharge among other benefits.

The two companies developed the power plant as part of their agreement on promoting carbon neutrality signed on April 27, 2023. The 77 Solar Park Tomiya project itself was first announced the following month, on May 12, 2023.
