Aomori Prefectural Assembly passes renewables ordinances, set to introduce tax on solar and wind in FY2025

Aomori Prefecture is the second local government to pass an ordinance introducing a tax on renewables.

Aomori Prefectural Assembly passed the “Nature, Regions, and Renewable Energy Coexistence Ordinance” and “Aomori Prefecture Renewable Energy Coexistence Tax Ordinance” during its regular session on March 24, 2025. The tax is expected to come into effect in FY2025, pending approval from the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications.
