Cosmo Eco Power started supplying power and non-fossil certificates to U-POWER through a three-year physical PPA involving the 1.2MW Goto Hassakubana Wind Power Plant, the companies announced on November 6, 2024.

U-POWER will supply the procured power and associated environmental value to its customers, as well as to some of its parent U-NEXT HOLDINGS’ office buildings. Additionally, it will also supply a portion of the procured power and non-fossil certificates back to the power plant through a one-year retail contract with Cosmo Eco Power to cover the power needed for its operation.

The power plant, located in Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture, was commissioned in March 2021 and initially monetized using the feed-in-tariff (FIT) scheme, which paid a fixed fee per kWh. Agency for Natural Resources and Energy’s data shows that at the beginning of March 2023, the power plant was re-certified under the feed-in-premium (FIP) scheme in preparation for its use for a PPA.

Separately from Goto Hassakubana, Cosmo Eco Power also converted its 18MW Himekami Wind Park from FIT to FIP recently, using it for PPAs with Panasonic Operational Excellence and Tokyo Metro.
