Daito Trust Construction agreed to fully acquire Ichinohe Forest Power, the operator of a 6.25MW biomass power plant in Ichinohe Town, Iwate Prefecture, from Fujikoh, the company said on February 17, 2025.

The power plant generates approximately 45GWh all of which is currently sold through the feed-in-tariff (FIT) scheme at 32 yen per kWh. After acquisition, Daito Trust Construction plans to convert the power plant to the feed-in-premium (FIP) scheme. It plans to do so to be able to supply the generated power to its group’s east Japan branches and to communal spaces and vacant rooms of the properties it manages in the area.

Daito Trust Construction will continue to use unused wood procured from forestry companies and associations and waste wood from lumber making to fuel the power plant.

With this acquisition, Daito Trust Construction is expected to reach the point of covering 100% of its power consumption with renewables. It also gets the company closer to its goal of all of its business-related power consumption from owned renewable sources by 2040.

As part of that, in July 2023, the company acquired the 5.6MW “Asago Biomass Power Plant” project in Hyogo Prefecture from Kansai Electric Power and its partners, which it commissioned in April 2024. Power generated at the power plant is being used at Daito Trust Construction’s west Japan branches.

Ichinohe Forest Power’s parent Fujikoh, which is involved in construction-related waste disposal among other businesses, entered the biomass power generation industry in 2007. It commissioned the power plant being acquired by Daito Trust Construction in June 2016.
