Ecokaku, a Tochigi-based renewable developer, partnered with West Holdings to jointly develop and build grid-scale battery storage facilities, the former’s parent company Technologies said on March 11, 2025.
As part of the partnership, Ecokaku will be responsible for finding project sites and acquiring land, securing grid connections, and other development and administration-related activities. West Holdings will handle engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), operation and maintenance (O&M), and other technical activities.
According to Technologies’s statement, Ecokaku has already submitted over 160 grid connection applications to the relevant grid operators for 13 extra high-voltage (2MW+) and more than 147 high-voltage (sub-2MW) projects. It continues to file requests for more projects on a regular basis, targeting 20 to 30 new applications a month.
West Holdings previously signed two similar agreements. In August 2023, it partnered with battery system manufacturer Power X to develop 200MWh by spring 2025, and in August 2024, it joined forces with Grid to develop 800MWh by FY2027. Separately, is also working on a 34MWh grid-scale BESS project in Hiroshima Prefecture, which it aims to commission by October 2025.
