Energy Power secured approximately 1.7 billion yen engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for an undisclosed grid-scale battery storage project, it announced on May 16, 2025. It also pushed back the schedule for a separate BESS EPC contract according to a separate announcement from the same day.
The company did not provide a target completion date for the new contract but said it plans to mainly recognize the related revenue in fiscal years ending August 2025 and August 2026.
It postponed the revenue recognition for the earlier, 480 million yen contract won in August 2024 from FY2025 to FY2026. According to the statement, the grid reinforcement construction schedule for the project was revised, making an adjustment to Energy Power’s schedule necessary.
Energy Power, which has been active in power retail since 2016 before also expanding into power infrastructure EPC in recent years, expanded into storage in 2024. In addition to having secured several BESS EPC contracts, the company also acquired two 2MW/8MWh projects in Hyogo Prefecture, which it plans to commission this fiscal year.
The delay reflects a broader trend of grid connections being a bottleneck in speedier development and construction of grid-scale BESS. As of the end of calendar year 2024, unprocessed connection applications reached 95GW, up from 88GW at the end of September 2024.
