Erex will develop a 2MW/8MWh grid-scale battery storage project in Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture, the company announced on July 23, 2026.

According to the statement, the company signed an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with GreenEnergy Plus on the same day. It plans to commission the project in the first quarter of FY2027. The asset will be aggregated by Erex, participating in the wholesale, balancing, and capacity markets.

The project is Erex’s third grid-scale battery storage asset overall and its first in the Kansai TSO area. It is being developed under the company’s efforts to expand from biomass generation and power trading into aggregation.

Erex’s first grid-scale storage project, a 2MW/8MWh facility in Kushima City, Miyazaki Prefecture, was commissioned in April 2026. The company is also developing a 2MW/8MWh asset in Chiba Prefecture that is expected to come online in the third quarter of FY2026 and a 2MW battery co-located with Nishinippon Plant Engineering and Construction-affiliated solar power plant in Fukuoka Prefecture.

Previously, Erex signed a memorandum of understanding with Samsung C&T to cooperate on developing grid-scale battery storage, planning to build assets nationwide through a 50:50 joint venture. The current status of the partnership disclosed in October 2025 and any potential involvement of the Korean company in the Kameoka project are unclear.
