Eurus Energy has started the environmental impact assessment process for an up to 80MW onshore wind project it is developing in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture.
According to the document on primary environmental impact consideration submitted to the relevant stakeholders on March 28, 2025, the Shitoki project will consist of up to 19 turbines, 4 to 6 MW each, installed within an approximately 1,541ha area. Eurus Energy plans to begin construction in 2031 or later, with commissioning expected in 2034 or later.
The planned location overlaps with that of the 18.8MW Eurus Tabito Wind Farm, which began commercial operation in November 2023. It is also in the vicinity of the company’s 23 years old 10MW Eurus Satomi Wind Farm and the 34MW Eurus Sandaimyojin Wind Farm commissioned in August 2024.
Multiple other onshore wind projects are planned in the area. Invenergy is currently building the 79.8MW Ibaraki Hanawa Wind Power Plant, which is scheduled for March 2028 commissioning. GF Corporation’s up to 54.6MW Tabito Chuo Wind Farm and JR-EAST Energy Development’s 34MW Umaageyama project are in the draft and final report stages of the environmental assessment process, respectively.
A day before beginning the process for the Shitoki project, Eurus Energy also submitted a document on primary environmental impact consideration for an up to 60MW onshore wind farm in Mutsu City, Aomori Prefecture. In February 2025, the company commissioned the 72.2MW Yuchi Wind Farm and the 60MW south section of Ashikawa Wind Farm, completing the broader 434.5MW Dohoku project in Hokkaido.
Eurus Energy, Japan’s largest onshore wind operator, has been operating some of its projects for over 20 years. Because of that, the company is beginning to repower its older assets such as Mameda Wind Farm, Iwaya Wind Farm, and Shitsukari Wind Farm, alongside developing new projects.
