Eurus Energy’s group company Eurus Yokohama Wind Farm started repowering the 10.5MW Eurus Mameda Wind Farm in Yokohama Town, Aomori Prefecture, on March 1, 2025.
According to Eurus Energy’s statement from March 3, 2025, the company plans to begin commercial operation of the new turbines in February 2027. It tasked Maeda Corporation with the project’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC).
The power plant, consisting of six 1.75MW Vestas turbines, was first commissioned in October 2003. Three of the original turbines were taken out of service in March 2023 and will be replaced by two 4.3MW Siemens Gamesa turbines. The remaining three will continue to operate. While the repowered power plant will have five turbines totaling 13.85MW, its output will be capped at 10.5MW due to grid connection constraint.
Eurus Energy, a Toyota Tsusho subsidiary, is Japan’s largest onshore wind operator with over 3.3GW of operational capacity installed. Having built its first projects in the early 2000s, its older assets have reached the point where they need to be repowered. In addition to the Mameda power plant, the company is also currently repowering its 32.5MW and 19.25MW Iwaya and Shitsukari projects, both of which it plans to commission in 2028.
