Goi Thermal Power Station Unit 1 will begin commercial operation on August 1, 2024, the power plant’s operator Goi United Generation LLC revealed on July 26, 2024. Units 2 and 3 are expected to follow in November 2024 and March 2025, respectively.

Each of the three units at the 2.34 GW power plant in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture, will have generation capacity of 780 MW. The combined-cycle gas turbines will have a thermal efficiency of 64%.

Goi United Generation, which is working on the renewal of the power plant first built in the 1960s, is a joint venture between JERA, ENEOS, and Kyushu Electric Power with the following ownership distribution:

  • JERA Power Investment: 60%
  • ENEOS Corporation: 33.33%
  • Kyuden Energy Investment: 6.67%

The power plant’s generation capacity will be allocated among the three companies based on their shareholding percentage.

All of the power plant’s original units, which were commissioned in the 1960s, have been decommissioned in 2018.
