Today, November 14, 2024, Goi United Generation commissioned Goi Thermal Power Station’s 780MW Unit 2 in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture, in the Tokyo TSO area, the power plant’s operator’s largest shareholder JERA announced.
The second unit’s commissioning was originally planned for the end of November 2024, however, it was brought forward due to the required work being complete. It follows Unit 1, which was commissioned on August 1, 2024. The last, third unit that is being built to replace the originally six-unit 1.89GW power plant decommissioned in 2018 is expected to come online in March 2025.
All three of the LNG-fired units are 780MW combined-cycle gas turbines (CCGT) with a 64% thermal efficiency. The engineering, procurement, and construction is being done by Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions and Toshiba Plant Systems & Services. The former is in charge of civil engineering, plant design, equipment supply, and construction. The latter is in charge of equipment installation.
In addition to JERA, which owns 60%, ENEOS Power and Kyuden Energy Investment hold 33.33% and 6.67% stakes in Goi United Generation.
