wpd is also undergoing the environmental impact assessment process with the up to 97.6MW Kuji-Yamagata Wind Farm in Iwate Prefecture.

wpd Japan-affiliated Higashiyurihara Ayukawa Furyoku Hatsuden LLC submitted the environmental impact assessment methodology for an up to 48.8MW onshore wind project in Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture, to METI and other stakeholders on October 14, 2026.

According to the document, the company plans to install up to 11 turbines, 4.2MW to 6.1MW each, across an approximately 663ha site. Construction is expected to begin in April 2031, with commercial operation following in December 2033.

The methodology is the first document filed for Higashiyurihara Ayukawa. As a Class 2 onshore wind power plant with a capacity between 37.5MW and 50MW, the project was exempt from the primary consideration stage that marks the beginning of the process for larger assets.

Operational wind power plants in the vicinity include the 41.6MW Eurus Higashiyurihara Wind Farm commissioned in 2018, the 51MW Eurus Yuri Kogen Wind Farm brought online in 2015, and J-Wind’s 41.4MW Nikaho No. 2 Wind Power Plant, which began operation in 2020. Eurus Energy Holdings is also undergoing the environmental impact assessment process with its up to 50MW Sasamoriyama project in the area.

The Germany-based wpd’s Japan unit began commercial operation of the 7.48MW Higashi-Izu Furusato Wind Farm owned jointly with the GPSS Group in June 2026. It also launched the environmental impact assessment process for the up to 97.6MW Kuji-Yamagata Wind Farm in Iwate Prefecture in January 2026 and is seeking local consent under Aomori Prefecture’s ordinance with an approximately 48MW project.
