On November 8, 2024, J-Power’s wholly-owned subsidiary J-Solar commissioned the 1.999MW Himeji City Oshio Solar Power Plant in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture. The Himeji City Oshio Solar Power Plant is expected to generate approximately 3.9GWh annually.

All of the generated power will be sold in the wholesale market and the associated non-fossil certificates will be sold to Tokyo Metro through a 20-year virtual PPA signed in early August 2024. The scheme will allow Tokyo Metro to use the non-fossil certificates without creating the need to transfer the power physically between the Kansai TSO area where the power plant is located and the Tokyo TSO area.

While the power plant was initially awarded 10.34 yen per kWh feed-in-tariff (FIT) in the 10th Solar Auction, the 2.69MWDC project was converted to the feed-in-premium (FIP) scheme, which enabled the execution of the virtual PPA, instead.

Construction work on the power plant, which is J-Power’s first major solar project, begun in March 2024. The company is currently constructing one other large-scale solar project, the 29.999MW Kitakyushu City Hibikinada Solar Power Plant in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, which is expected to be commissioned in March 2025.
