JEPX and METI start reviewing interconnector transmission rights market, consider adding new products

JEPX and METI are considering adding six new interconnector-direction pairs to the transmission rights market.

On January 24, 2025, JEPX and METI’s Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE) held the first meeting of the former’s newly established “Indirect Transmission Rights System Study Group.” The group will work on reforming the market, which was introduced in 2019 to help companies hedge against area price risk. Changes being considered, including the addition of new tradable interconnector-direction pairs, were discussed.
