Kamigumi ordered Power X battery systems for the 13MW/54.84MWh “Kasai Mega Power” grid-scale storage facility it is building in Kasai City, Hyogo Prefecture.
According to Power X’s statement from April 1, 2025, the asset will use 20 containerized Mega Power units and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2026. Kamigumi’s June 2024 announcement projected construction to begin in January 2025 and completion in February 2026, though the timeline appears to have been delayed.
“Kasai Mega Power” is Kamigumi’s first grid-scale BESS project. The company is also developing a 2MW/8MWh project in Tokyo jointly with Banpu Japan, which will also use Power X equipment and is slated for April 2028 commissioning.
Power X was founded in 2021 and has recently been gaining market share with its battery storage systems assembled in Okayama Prefecture, primarily receiving orders for smaller, 2MW/8MWh projects. The company has attracted investment from both financial institutions and companies active in the energy industry, such as Itochu and Toyota Tsusho.
