Kamigumi, a major international logistics services provider also involved in renewable energy projects, will develop its first grid-scale battery storage facility, the company said in a statement released at the end of June 2024. The 13MW/54.84MWh project will be located in Kasai City, Hyogo Prefecture.

Construction of the project tentatively named Kasai Mega Power Battery Storage Facility is expected to start in January 2025 and finish just over a year later in February 2026. The facility will use lithium-ion batteries for trading power on the wholesale, capacity, and balancing markets.

While this is Kamigumi’s first foray into grid-scale battery projects, the company already operates a 20MW+ solar power plant in the same city, as well as smaller power plants on its warehouses, among other assets. It commissioned its first solar power plant in February 2013.
