Kuramoto Manufacturing joins a growing list of companies that announced their entry into grid-scale battery storage.

Kuramoto Manufacturing decided to enter the grid-scale battery storage business, the TSE Standard-listed glass substrate manufacturer announced on April 11, 2025.

According to the statement, the company plans to own the storage facilities it develops and builds. It partnered with Eiki Shoji on development and plans to outsource the trading of the assets in the wholesale, balancing, and capacity markets to an aggregator.

Under the partnership, Eiki Shoji, which has experience with developing solar projects, will introduce potential project sites to Kuramoto Manufacturing and support the development process, including grid connections. Kuramoto Manufacturing will pay the company referral and consulting fees in exchange.

Currently, Kuramoto Manufacturing is conducting due diligence on the first project it is considering acquiring. It aims to complete the transaction in August 2025 and begin construction on a 2,000 to 3,000m2 plot of land the following month. It is targeting April 2026 COD for the facility. No further details about the asset including its capacity and location have been disclosed.

The asset will be Kuramoto Manufacturing’s first foray into power infrastructure. The company has, however, been involved in perovskite solar cells manufacturing, with a 1MW per year production line under construction and a goal of reaching 1GW per year mass production by 2030.

“We also plan to consider expanding [the grid-scale battery storage business] by linking it with the perovskite solar cells we supply,” said the company in the statement.
