Kurihalant ordered Power X batteries for its two projects that were awarded METI’s FY2024 subsidy for energy storage projects, the manufacturer announced on February 17, 2025.
According to the statement, the smaller, 1.9MW/8.2MWh Daigo Power Storage Station in Daigo Town, Ibaraki Prefecture, in the Tokyo TSO area will use three Power X Mega Power units. The facility, which was awarded an approximately 132 million yen subsidy, is expected to be commissioned in 2026.
The larger, 4MW/16.4MWh Awajishima Power Storage Station in Awaji City, Hyogo Prefecture, in the Kansai TSO area will use six units. It was awarded an approximately 281 million yen subsidy and is expected to begin commercial operation in 2027.
“Kurihalant, with its extensive experience and technical capabilities in the power infrastructure field as a general engineering company, and PowerX, which aims to be a next-generation energy company focused on domestic manufacturing of large-scale stationary storage batteries, will continue to collaborate in the development, operation, and maintenance of energy storage plants in order to promote the further introduction of renewable energy,” said the statement.
The two projects will follow Kurihalant’s first BESS project, the 2MW/7.6MWh Chiba Kimitsu Power Storage Station, which was supported by the FY2022 version of the same subsidy program and commissioned in December 2024. The project uses battery systems provided by TMEIC.
Separately, according to Kurihalant’s website, the company also has a portfolio of renewable generation assets including a 2MW biomass power plant, two small hydroelectric power plants, and eight solar power plants.
