Kyushu Electric Power’s group company Kyuden Mirai Energy will convert 1.99MWAC/2.73MWDC Omura Mega Solar No. 4 Power Plant from the feed-in-tariff (FIT) to the feed-in-premium (FIP) scheme and add 1.99MW/8.23MWh BESS to the project, the battery supplier Power X announced on February 4, 2025.
According to Power X, it will supply Kyuden Mirai Energy with three Mega Power units, which are expected to be installed and commissioned at the power plant in Omura City, Nagasaki Prefecture, within FY2025. Construction will be done by Kyunan. Nishimu Electronics Industries, another Kyushu EPCO group company, will provide EMS for the project.
The Omura Mega Solar No. 4 Power Plant was commissioned in 2016, making it the most recent of the four power plants that are part of the 17.48MWAC/20.35MWDC Omura Mega Solar Project built on the site of Kyushu EPCO’s now-decommissioned Omura Power Plant and land leased from the city. The 10.5MWAC/10.9MWDC No.1 and the 3.0MWAC/4.1MWDC No. 2 power plants were commissioned in 2013. No. 3 followed in 2015.
Combined, the power plants generate approximately 19.4GWh per year with the No. 4 power plant contributing approximately 2GWh of the total.
Currently, all four power plants are monetized using the FIT scheme. The first two were FIT-certified during FY2012, the first year of the scheme’s operation, when the tariff was 40 yen per kWh. The third power plant was certified in FY2013 at 36 yen per kWh. The fourth was certified in FY2014 when the FIT was 32 yen per kWh.
