LS ELECTRIC Japan secured an EPC and O&M contract for a 20MW/90MWh grid-scale battery storage facility in Watari Town, Miyagi Prefecture, the company announced on April 14, 2025.
The company said it “will form a consortium with local construction companies and be responsible for actual ESS implementation and operations.” The deal is worth about 3.7 billion yen, with commissioning planned for April 2027. The statement provides few additional details about the project.
The South Korean power infrastructure and automation systems provider previously supplied equipment for multiple other BESS projects in Japan. It won contracts for Pacifico Energy’s Itoshima Power Storage Station in Fukuoka Prefecture and Shiroishi Power Storage Station in Hokkaido, both commissioned in June 2023.
The statement suggests the company was also selected to provide equipment for an undisclosed project awarded Tokyo government’s FY2024 subsidy for grid-scale storage projects. Based on past collaborations, Pacifico Energy’s planned project in Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture, may be the one referenced.
LS ELECTRIC aims to expand its presence in Japan’s energy sector, including storage, solar, and related equipment. “Through strategic diversification, such as operating solar power plants directly in Japan, we will establish our smart energy business as a solid future growth engine,” a company representative said.
