The two companies’ parents signed a BESS-focused partnership in September 2024.

Maeda Corporation, a construction company also involved in biomass generation, and RS Asset Advisors will jointly develop a 1.97MW/8MWh BESS facility in Gonohe City, Aomori Prefecture, the companies announced on February 25, 2025.

The “Aomori Sannohe-gun Power Storage Station” is the first asset being developed as part of a partnership to jointly engage in grid-scale battery storage business signed by the two companies parents Infroneer Holdings and RS Holdings in September 2024. It is expected to be commissioned in August 2026.

According to the statement, Maeda is responsible for the Tohoku TSO area project’s “technological and operational strategy formulation” including the selection of its EPC contractor, equipment supplier, and aggregator, and considering serving as the asset’s maintenance service provider. RS Asset Advisors is responsible for “development and administrative work” including land selection and acquisition, grid connection, and business plan preparation.

“[We] will continue to work on the high-voltage grid-scale battery storage business, and also plan to develop extra-high-voltage [2MW+] projects in parallel,” said the statement.

This is Maeda’s first foray into the battery storage business. Shortly after RS Holdings’ partnership with Maeda’s parent was executed, in December 2024, RS Asset Advisors also announced a BESS-focused partnership with Mitsubishi HC Capital Energy.
