On December 24, 2024, Chubu Electric Power, Hokkaido Electric Power, and Kanadevia (former Hitachi Zosen) submitted a planning stage “document on primary environmental impact consideration” for an up to 183MW onshore wind project they are jointly developing in Kaminokuni Town, Hokkaido.

According to the submitted document, the companies plan to use up to 30 turbines, each between 4.2MW and 6.1MW. They plan to start construction of the “Miyakoshi-Yunotai Wind Project” in October 2028 and commission it after three years of construction and six months of trial operation around the spring of 2032.

The new project is being planned in the vicinity of three other currently operational onshore wind power plants, all owned by J-POWER and affiliates, including the 28MW Kaminokuni Wind Farm, 41.5MW Kaminokuni No. 2 Wind Power Plant, and 21MW Esashi Wind Power Plant.

Multiple other onshore and offshore projects in the area are in various stages of development.
