Kyoto-based electronic component manufacturer Murata Manufacturing plans to start offering its renewable energy control software, ‘efinnos,’ to non-affiliated companies this month, the company announced on July 11, 2024.

According to the statement, Murata Manufacturing plans to offer the software it developed and has been using internally to companies with significant power consumption including other manufacturers. The system is designed to control solar power plants and storage batteries in particular, helping asset owners maximize the use of renewable energy amid fluctuating generation and demand and to decrease their peak demand.

“Data is collected from solar power generation and storage battery systems and peripheral devices, and combined with operating data for each device and facility at the site, past operating records, and weather and other forecast information obtained from external agencies,” the company said. In selected cases, the software then uses artificial intelligence to optimize the operation of the solar power plants and storage batteries.

Additionally, the ‘efinnos’ web application allows for real-time monitoring of power consumption, generation, and storage status across a company’s portfolio.

Murata Manufacturing first deployed the solution at its subsidiary Kanazu Murata Manufacturing in September 2021. Since then, it has also rolled out ‘efinnos’ at its facilities in Wakura, Hakui, Sendai, and Ise, which allowed it to test the software at facilities with varying generation, storage, and demand conditions.
