On January 24, 2025, NPR-Riken, a manufacturer of components for a variety of industries, signed a 20-year off-site PPA through which it will purchase the power generated at Shinpu Power’s upcoming 7.48MW Noshiro Funazawa Power Plant in Noshiro City, Akita Prefecture. Tohoku Electric Power will serve as the retailer between the generator and the offtaker.

According to a statement released by the companies on January 30, 2025, NPR-Riken will use the procured power at 15 facilities in the Tohoku TSO area. The companies expect the supply to start in September 2025 with approximately 18GWh being delivered to the offtaker each year.

Shinpu Power, which is a joint venture between Ohmori Construction and Shirakami Country Club, secured 4.4 billion yen in project financing for the power plant in February 2024 through a loan arranged by The Akita Bank. The power plant will consist of two turbines.

The Japan Energy Hub PPA database shows that Tohoku EPCO has been involved in multiple PPAs in the role of the retailer sleeving the deals. On the other hand, this is the first PPA disclosed by Shinpu Power and NPR-Riken. For the latter, it is the first off-site PPA in general, the statement confirms.
