NTT Docomo will use the procured power at various facilities in the Tohoku TSO area.

Earthsolar, a start-up renewable and battery storage developer founded in 2022, signed its first corporate PPA. The PPA will see ES Solar LLC, which is fully owned and controlled by Earthsolar, supply approximately 10GWh per year to NTT Docomo’s facilities in the Tohoku TSO area, with Tohoku EPCO serving as the retailer sleeving the PPA.

ES Solar will develop six solar power plants with a combined output of approximately 9MW in Akita, Aomori, and Iwate prefectures using financing provided by Akita Prefecture-based Hokuto Bank. The project was also selected as one of the recipients of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s FY2023 subsidy for consumer-led introduction of solar power generation, which covers between one and two thirds of eligible expenses.

The power plants are expected to be commissioned gradually from this fiscal year onward and, once fully operational, are expected to lead to an annual CO2 emission reduction of 4,740 tons.

According to the Japan Energy Hub PPA database, NTT Docomo signed multiple other PPAs in the past.
