Peak Energy Japan commissioned a 2MW solar carport at JTEKT’s Kagawa Plant under a 20-year on-site PPA, the company announced on April 9, 2026.
According to the statement, the project in Higashikagawa City, Kagawa Prefecture, covers about 640 parking spaces and is expected to generate approximately 2.5GWh annually. Peak Energy said that it “designed, financed and installed the system” and that it will also provide operations and maintenance (O&M) for the duration of the PPA. The installation took five months.
The Peak Energy-developed solar power plant will complement an existing 465kW system that JTEKT installed on Kagawa Plant’s No. 3 Factory Building rooftop in 2014, expecting it to supply about 450MWh annually.
Japan Energy Hub’s database shows that the Toyota Group automotive component manufacturer previously disclosed several other PPAs, including a 4.5MW off-site physical deal for the supply of solar power from Tekoma Energy’s assets to 10 of its facilities via Shikoku Electric Power and an 11.9MW virtual deal with Photon Capital.
Stonepeak-owned Peak Energy also holds a stake in a 20MWAC/28.2MWDC operational solar power plant in Minamata City, Kumamoto Prefecture, and, in 2025, announced acquisitions of two ready-to-build portfolios totaling 59MW.
Interest in solar carports and other non-traditional solar installations in Japan has been increasing amid limited land availability for larger-scale ground-mounted projects and a growing demand for renewable energy. Previously, among others, a Sumitomo Corporation and Shikoku Electric Power joint venture agreed in 2024 to develop about 15MW across 12 Aeon Mall shopping malls under on-site PPAs.
