Q.ENEST Holdings is developing “Q.ENEST Sano High-Voltage Power Storage Station,” its first grid-scale battery storage facility, the company said on March 13, 2025. It aims to commission the 1.999MW/8.226MWh asset in Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture, by the end of July 2025.
Construction work on the asset is expected to begin in March 2025. Green Energy & Company’s subsidiary Green Energy Plus will handle engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC). The project will use three Power X Mega Power containerized battery systems.
Once operational, the power storage station’s power will be traded by Q.ENEST Holdings’ subsidiary Q.ENEST Denki.
The project was awarded over 113 million yen through METI’s FY2024 program for supporting the introduction of energy storage. Q.ENEST Holdings’ group company Q.ENEST Ready’s project in Chiba Prefecture, the details of which have not been disclosed yet, is also one of 27 awarded the subsidy.
“Using the knowledge gained from operating this facility, our group will strengthen technological development to serve the role of an aggregator in the VPP business, including the control of industrial battery storage systems, in the future,” said Q.ENEST Holdings’ statement.
The company was founded as Hanwha Japan’s power business in 2017 before becoming independent in 2023. It has been involved in multiple aspects of the renewable energy business including the development and operation of solar power plants and, through Q.ENEST Denki, power retail.
