Renewable Japan announced its first grid-scale battery storage project. The company expects the 2MW/7.8MWh facility in Hidaka City, Saitama Prefecture, to start commercial operations in March 2025.

According to the company’s statement, the battery storage power plant will be developed and owned by Renewable Japan’s group company RJ Capital 2 LLC and Renewable Japan will act as the aggregator trading the facility’s power on the capacity, wholesale, and balancing markets.

Nippon Koei Energy Solutions will be responsible for the facility’s EPC. Tesla lithium-ion batteries will be used.

The project was selected as one of the recipients of Tokyo government’s FY2023 subsidy for promoting grid-scale battery storage.
